Hong Kong "Sets" the Standard on Meals

I think there’s nothing better than having a variety of food in one meal at a great deal. I mean really, who doesn’t love a great deal. Hong Kong has got it right with their love of meal sets. There are breakfast sets, high tea sets, value sets, afternoon tea sets, lunch sets, dinner sets and probably dessert sets.

Breakfast sets usually include  2 protein sources (egg + luncheon meat), bread (toast, roll, croissant), and a hot beverage. High tea sets include mini sandwiches, cakes, pastries, danishes, cookies, scones and of course tea and coffee. All other sets would include a protein, starch, always a veggie source (unlike the states-salad doesn’t count), soup and beverage of your choice. What I like most is that yes, the food might not be the best for you in a health standpoint but the portions are just enough for you to be satisfied. A perfect diet would  not  omit your favorite foods. It’s about finding the right balance.

Now lets talk about the high tea sets which are basically dessert trays. The portions are so small (usually about the size of a golf ball or two each) and most are loaded with fresh fruits. Now am I saying go crazy and have these dessert sets everyday? Nah, once a month would suffice and it should be shared. You can usually share a 2 person set with 3-4 people.

Another reason why I love meal sets is if you’re like me, I prefer cold drinks. Most of these sets include a free hot drink but depending on the restaurant you can add $2-$5 HK (.25-.65 cents USD) to change it to a cold drink. I love that! Having options are great and I don’t mind paying extra.
